Hiking trip: Camino Brabant - From Tilburg to Den Bosch - 7 days

The final stage of the Camino Brabant is one rich in stories. From Tilburg, you walk through border enclaves and along hidden boundary paths to the fortified town of Heusden, eventually returning to ’s-Hertogenbosch. Along the way, you encounter striking contrasts: nature and industry, silence and history, Belgium and the Netherlands. You follow ancient borders, passing monasteries, canals, and city walls. A worthy conclusion to the Camino Brabant – varied, full of character, and surprising until the very end.

The route for this journey is available through our Guibo app.

Day 1:    Arrival in Tilburg

The third and final part of the Camino Brabant begins in the creative city of Tilburg. If you arrive early, take time to explore one of its modern hotspots or visit the Nature or Textile Museum. Want to start your pilgrimage in style? Walk to the Hasselt Chapel, the oldest religious building in the city. And… lovers of local traditions won’t want to sleep before tasting the regional herbal liqueur Schrobbelèr.

Day 2:    Tilburg – Baarle-Hertog/Nassau (25 km)

After a hearty breakfast, you leave the city through the green expanse of the Oude Warande, an 18th-century star-shaped forest that offers a peaceful start to the day. Quiet paths lead you towards Alphen, where the Mary Chapel beside the St. Willibrordus Church provides a place of silence in the heart of the village. The route continues through wide farmland, interspersed with patches of forest and historic farmhouses. Just before reaching Baarle-Hertog/Nassau, the fascinating border maze begins - a crisscross of enclaves, boundary stones, and stories. In this unique twin town, where Belgium and the Netherlands are intricately intertwined, your day ends at the St. Remigius Church.

Day 3:    Baarle-Hertog/Nassau – Breda (24 km)

Leaving the enclaves of Baarle behind, you walk through tranquil countryside towards Castelré, the southernmost point of North Brabant. A short detour takes you to the Statue of Mary on the Belgian-Dutch border - a beloved pilgrim spot. Through country roads and old peat canals, you enter the wooded surroundings of Chaam. You pass vineyards and a hidden Mary Chapel tucked among the trees. After a break in the friendly village of Bavel, the route takes you past the historic 'Mast' forest. The day ends at the impressive Grote Kerk (Great Church) in the charming city of Breda, the perfect spot for quiet reflection.

Day 4:    Breda - Kaatsheuvel (27 km)

The longest Camino stage starts in Breda’s historic center. After a coffee in the shade of the Grote Kerk, you leave the city via Wilhelminapark and walk along the Markdal toward Ulvenhout. You cross the river Donge and follow an old peat canal to Dongen, where a small roadside Mary Chapel offers a peaceful break. Through country paths, woods, and quiet fields, you approach Kaatsheuvel. Just before your destination, you pass the Huis ter Heide nature reserve — a tranquil oasis with fens, sandy trails, and grazing Highland cattle. The day ends at the Mary statue in St. Joseph’s Church.

Day 5:    Kaatsheuvel – Heusden (24 km)

Today’s stage is a beautiful blend of nature and history. Starting in lively Kaatsheuvel, you soon enter the Loonse and Drunense Dunes — known as the “Brabant Sahara,” with shifting sands and fragrant pine forests. After a short break at a forest ranger’s hut, you continue toward Giersbergen, a centuries-old hamlet where time seems to stand still. Pause at one of the charming old farmhouses before following dike roads and enjoying wide panoramic views. You end the day in the fortified town of Heusden, where city gates, canals, and cobbled streets provide a worthy setting for your final night on the Camino.

Day 6:    Heusden – ’s-Hertogenbosch (21 km)

From the fortress town of Heusden, you walk along dikes with sweeping views over the winding River Meuse, heading toward the riverside village of Bokhoven. Enjoy the vast skies above the floodplains along the way. You pass Fort Hedikhuizen — once part of the historic Southern Water Line — and the fairy-tale drawbridge at Meerwijk Castle. In summer, a flower-lined path leads you to Oud Orthen, where a welcoming teahouse in the cemetery park may be open for a final rest. Across the water, you’ll already see the shining towers of the magnificent St. Jans Cathedral. In the Mary Chapel, you can sit in peace and reflect on all the experiences of this beautiful final stage of the Camino Brabant.

Day 7:    Departure from ’s-Hertogenbosch

After a good breakfast, your journey along the final part of the Camino Brabant comes to an end.
